Salovum
Salovum® is a product based on Egg yolk powder B221 which is a form of administering high amounts of exogenous Protein-AF. The development of Salovum® was a result of the researchers finding that some patients did not respond with induction of Protein-AF. It was discovered that hens fed with the Protein-AF-inducing feed laid eggs with Protein-AF-enriched yolks. For practical reasons, a spray-dried egg yolk powder was developed. This egg yolk powder given to patients is a form of exogenous administration of the Protein-AF and it is primarily used for acute treatment of diarrhea or in the initial treatment of patients with suspected low levels of Protein-AF. The SPC products on the other hand should be considered as maintenance treatment, stimulating the patient’s own production of the AF protein.
